Ladybugs are insects of the beetle family recognizable by the red color of their elytra. This color, which is also a natural defense, is at the origin of their name which comes from the Latin coccinus - "scarlet". Contrary to popular belief, the spots on its wings do not give its age but represent an identification of the species. Ladybugs are very popular with gardeners today in their fight against aphids.
